Artist's Description

Prior to January 1, 2017, when sugar cane was about eighteen months and had been allowed to dry out, the fields are burned in a controlled burn, sections at a time, so that only the canes themselves need to be harvested. It is done by giant machines. At the very start of the burn, the clouds in the area sometimes take on spectacular colors, which lasts a few minutes. Although the clouds were behind me on the course, early in the morning at the Dunes at Maui Lani Golf Course, I happened to turn around and saw this sight. I grabbed my camera and voila! This spectacular scene! Sugar cane is no longer raised on Maui and thus, there will never be any more controlled burns nor sights such as this!
