Artist's Description

For weeks during the summer of 2012, fires ranged in Northern California, consuming hundreds of thousands of acres of forest. Although the fires were about thirty miles from this wonderful lake in Lassen County, northeastern California, the skies were affected. On the morning when I took this picture, while out on the lake, the sun was really brilliant as it rose over the mountains. The lake is at an elevation of 5,300 feet, so the mountains are over 6,000 feet.
