Description
The famous windmills of the San Gorgonio Pass Wind Farm, in Riverside County, were begun in the 1980s. This one is one of three major ones in California. The scene when one drives in from the west on Interstate 10 is a real "landmark" and welcomes visitors. Many people love their look, though others do not!
This area, in the Coachella valley, is one of the windiest places in Southern California. The 4,000 plus windmills supply enough power to supply Palm Springs and the whole Coachella Valley, as part of the electrical grid. Each windmill is 80-160' tall. Their total output is 615 MW of power. Info from Wikipedia and my own observations!
These pictures were shot while driving on the Interstate.
