Description
Cassowary are native to the tropical forests of Papua New Guinea and NE Australia. They can run at 31 MPH, jump to 5 feet, and are good swimmers in both the ocean and wide rivers. They are shy and mostly loners, except during breeding seasons. They are the third tallest and second heaviest living birds, and only ostriches and emus are bigger. They are fliteless because they no keel on their sternum bone.
They mostly eat fruits, but also seeds, grasses, and tiny animals. The projection on top of their heads helps them part brush, while running through the jungles.
