Description
Hubbard Glacier in Alaska is a tidewater glacier, as it ends in open water and is also a mountain glacier, as it extends 76 miles back into the mountains. The terminus (front) of the glacier is 600 feet tall, though only 350 feet above water. It has been advancing for 100 years. It is so long that it takes 400 years for ice to traverse its length; thus, the ice shown in this picture is 400 years old! (wikipedia)
