Description
This small, coral and timber building, called Hale Pa'i (or House of Printing) is currently on the National Register of Historical Places for its role in the history of printing in Hawaii. It started in 1834 and was Hawaii's first printing press. It printed both English and Hawaiian language books and newspapers, including the first newspaper west of the Rocky Mountains. It also printed the first paper currency of Hawaii. It was added to the Register in 1976. It is found on the beautiful campus of Lahainaluna High School, in Maui.
